Team History

The franchise began play in 1979 as the Quebec Nordiques before moving to Denver in 1995 and becoming the Avalanche. In their first season, the Avs won the division and went on to sweep the Easter Conference champion Florida Panthers in the 1996 Stanley Cup Finals. It was the first professional sports championship for the city of Denver.

The Avs success didn’t stop with one Stanley Cup. Led by eventual Hall of Famers Patrick Roy, Joe Sakic, and Peter Forsberg, Colorado won eight consecutive division titles from 1995-96 to 2002-03. After bolstering the team with Hall of Famers Ray Bourque and Rob Blake at the trade deadline, the Avs won a second Stanley Cup in 2000-01.

Today, Nathan MacKinnon and Gabriel Landeskog are the faces of professional hockey in Colorado. At Photo File, you will find officially licensed images of all your favorite past and present Avs! Shop now.
