Team History

Part of the NHL’s first expansion, the Philadelphia Flyers have been skating around the City of Brotherly Love since 1967. With two Stanley Cup titles, eight conference championships, and 16 division championships in franchise history, the Flyers have brought victory to Philly.

How can we talk about Philadelphia Flyers history without mentioning the Broad Street Bullies — a defense so forceful that it carried the team to its first postseason victory. Led by Bobby Clarke, the Bullies took the Flyers from being a subpar expansion team to being a real hockey powerhouse.

Dave Schultz, who has the distinct honor of sitting 384 penalty minutes in a single season, was also an all-time great Bully, and helped the Flyers to continued postseason success. The team won their first Stanley Cup in 1974, thanks in part to a miraculous overtime goal by Gary Dornhoefer.

The modern Flyers, led by captain Claude Giroux, have seen a few playoff appearances, but are still hoping to rebuild to the point of Broad Street Bullies greatness.

If you’re the type of fan who knows exactly how many points Bobby Clarke scored in his career, our NHL photo collection is made for you.
