Originally home to the Pittsburgh Pirates, the Steel City has hosted a professional football team since 1933. The Pirates eventually changed to the Pittsburgh Steelers in 1939, still making them one of the oldest professional football teams in existence.

Pittsburgh has six Super Bowl championships, with the first win in 1974 and the most recent in 2008. Add 31 playoff appearances and 23 division championships into the mix, and the Pittsburgh Steelers are one of the winningest teams in all of NFL history.

The Steelers really became a successful NFL team with the introduction of Chuck Noll in 1969. Noll had a knack for drafting Hall-of-Fame players, including Mean Joe Greene, Terry Bradshaw, Mel Blount, Jack Ham, and Franco Harris. In one year (1974), Noll drafted four eventual Hall-of-Famers: Lynn Swann, Jack Lambert, John Stallworth, and Mike Webster.

These Hall-of-Fame legends carried the Steelers to post-season prowess, where they became the only team to win four Super Bowls in just six years.

In the modern era, Steelers Nation still has a solid group of players around which to rally. Ben Roethlisberger, Le’Veon Bell, and Antonio Brown have been stars for the Steelers since their draft
